Death isn't comparable or different to life, death IS a part of life. You can't have one without the other. It helps create a healthy cycle in the world. With birth comes death, they work together. Death is feared among many people, because through time death has been known to be bad. How is death bad? How is death scary? It's a time where we can all celebrate life, and gives those living the motivation and reminder that we aren't invincible and that there will be a place to go. Many don't believe in Heaven, or Hell, or the after life. But....if life and living is such a gift and so complex...why object to the possibility and complexity to the afterlife? It's a whole other journey, and when it comes it is meant to come for a purpose. It should be embraced, live each day as best you can...then death won't be scary but welcoming.

If you believe in the afterlife, death would be the birth, or beginning, of the afterlife. Life has a beginning, which is birth, and an end, which is death. The after life has a beginning, which is death, but no end, which is eternal life.
Life and death are also different because they are the complete opposite of each other. In life there is warmth, love, hate, glory, emotions, friendships, relationships, etc. In death there is not. Life has everything. Death has nothing. If you are a believer in God and Christ then you would know that Christ abolished death.
Meaning, those who die are not bound by the cold hands of death.
Which reminds me of another difference between life and death. Christ said he would cast into hell sin and death. Yet in Heaven there would be no more sin and life eternal.
Your question, whether you realize it or not, brings up some very philosophical questions of it's own.

Depends on what you believe. Some believe in an afterlife. An afterlife can be very similar to a real life. I believe that is no afterlife. I will just die, and that's it. Westerners tend to be afraid of death. We spend our whole lives avoiding it. Scientists spend years preventing it. Easterners think a bit differently. They think that death is part of life, and they are not afraid of it.

Death is like life because there is a beginning to both. However, they are different because life has a beginning and an end, but death has no end for it is eternal.

Death is eternal - heaven, wonderful. Life is made up of mortal decisions that you make. If you play the cards right, you have everlasting, eternal life.

When you're alive, you're afraid of death. When you're dead, you'll have one less thing to worry about.
