1. Make it mandatory that all teams will play each other at least twice a season

2. During the shootout have the players take off their helmets just like in the all star game.

3. Get rid of the stupid trapezoid. Goalies should be allowed to play the puck anywhere.

4. Bring in no touch icing. the chase for the icing is overated and every time except on the rare occasions does the icing team actually beat the icing.

5. Make it a rule that during the all star game one great veteran from each conference shall be recognized by the players and coachs. They then will be given a spot on the all star team.

6. Let the fans, players and coaches choose the all stars. Make it a balanced system where each group gets 33% of the vote. Popularity will be carried by the fans, recognition of play and respect by the players, and overall play and stats by the coaches.

7. Change back to the old uniform style with white being the home jersey and solid colors being the away team.

I think there should be a rule about how goalies play the puck. They made the trapezoid but I think it's unfair that some goalies (DiPietro is high guilty of this and Roy used to be) that abuse the goalie interference rule to protect the puck when they really shouldn't be playing it. I would really like the goalie to be fair game if they play the puck in certain situations. Understand the same rules would apply as far as no trips, hooks, etc... and I do not mean that a player should be allowed to take the goalie out with a bone crushing hit. I just think that the player should be able to steal the puck without worrying that the ref will call a penalty for him bumping the goalie.

Make the game even more faster by implementing no-touch icing. Watching some guy skate gingerly to his own end is very, very boring. I agree with Lizzie's obstruction idea. A simple love tap is enough to get two minutes. Adopt an NBA rule where any team using the neutral zone trap would be a team penalty of two minutes for illegal defence (kind of like too many men on the ice penalty); that trap is just killing the speed of the game. I would also make fighting just a tad more frequent, and it'll be perfect.

I also like the idea with increasing the rink size, as the guy said above me, but the NHL can't afford it. That would be a major refit to some stadiums that would cost millions of dollars. Think about it, you have to tear out the concrete from some of the seating.

let the NHL players and coaches vote in the All stars, I believe the fans have lost the privilage of voting because a bunch of morons are voting in rory fitzpatrick....dont even get me started on that issue, also make wins worth 3 points and ot/shootout losses keep at 1 point, this would really seperate the great teams from the average ones.
