ive heard the word a lot lately but i dont know what it means, and just from contexts its used in thats what i came up with, is that what it means or does it mean something else

No it doesn't. Though a lot of emo stuff is gay.
Genre of softcore punk music that integrates unenthusiastic melodramatic 17 year olds who dont smile, high pitched overwrought lyrics and inaudible guitar rifts with tight wool sweaters, tighter jeans, itchy scarfs (even in the summer), ripped chucks with favorite bands signature, black square rimmed glasses, and ebony greasy unwashed hair that is required to cover at least 3/5 ths of the face at an angle.

well....how to explain....umm, emo comes way back in the mid 80's, when bands from D.C were playing punk-ish kind of music in which lyrics were "emotional" and kids would relate to.
Now, emo, today is a trend that kids and some wierd adults use because they listen to emo music, which nowadays are not only bands from D.C, but they have the same feel of punk-ish Pop. examples are Dashboard Confessional, Hawthorne Heights, and the new-AFI to name a few. The songs that these bands play are very emotional, but lyrics talk about being rejected, or other teen related stuff. It is also related to the belief that emo kids cut their wrists or burn the skin of the wrist, as a response to the music or the way their life is going. The Emo fashion trend (the main reason you say they're gay) consists of wearing tight pants ( for guys, they wear jeans that are made for gals to wear) and they also wear emo band tees. No Zeppelin or Sabbath here. oh and they wear their hair to one side of the face, and also end to wear makeup. These are all stereotypes. So are they gay? hmm, In my beliefs....(sorry...).....yeah, probably because I'm a Huge fan of Classic Rock

Emo does not mean gay
Emo is a subculture sort of like punk on estrogen, they dont neccessarrelly cut themselves, cry all the time, nor is gay a requirement, some emos may be gay, many emos (both real emos and wanna-be emos) are bisexual, but by no means is it a requirement...

nah it doesn't necessarily. it's just that they relate that to gays because they're different from the social "norm" of what some people call it. they consider the "norm" to be like football players, cheerleaders, & preppy people.
they may also try to make that connection because a lot of gays are depressed like emos because they're finding out who they are.
eh, this is my definition of emo:
black hair, black clothes, the saying: "oh, my life sucks cause I say so..I'm soooo gonna blog about the darkness and blood and vampires, maybe i'll cut my wrists to relieve the "pain"
(now b4 i get hate comments yes i know not all emos cut their wrists :P just giving an example that some do)

Not gay. Kids who dress sort of goth looking or grungy, listen to dark music that is depressing and often refers to hurting oneself, and emo kids often are into cutting themselves. I couldn't believe how common it is in schools right now, I overheard my niece talking about them at a recent family gathering.

Teenage angst. Emotional outbursts. Black painted nails. Gothic clothes.

i seen a skit on MAD TV about a emo elmo and it showed a depressed sucidal puppet, I don't even know what it means either until I seen that skit

its also a style liek they wear black and have longish hair over one eye
and soem emos can be "gay" i guess
