Absolutely not. Purely a figment of Dan Brown's imagination. But he did a very clever job of winding snippets of historical fact into his fiction. Yes, the artists cited, are real. Yes, the sites indicated, are real. But, the hocus pocus holy grail business, is much enhanced to the point of being an adult fairy tale. And as far as Jesus and Mary Magdalene having a bloodline hiding out in France, it's anybody's guess. We could all be descendants of divine origin! But the whole book reads like a screen play, so I wasn't surprised when it was turned into a movie. Dan Brown should get an award for raising the ire of the Catholic Church however. They sure got defensive about his book and all it implies. Makes you think maybe they do have something to hide! But c'est la vie! Dan Brown is a clever weaver of art imitating life to such a degree that grown adults can't tell the difference! A lot of people are fooled that all his facts are true! Go to the history books for the real facts and you will realize what a great job of manipulation of lore and legend Brown actually accomplished! A truly superior job of rewriting ancient legend as gospel truth! But maybe we're all still children at heart, no matter how old we get, we don't outgrow the need to believe in the miraculous, and maybe that's not such a bad thing! Keeps us thinking, if nothing else!

According to the JEWISH prophecies, the real Messiah will marry and have sons to whom he leaves an inheritance. He does not serve as some virgin man-god blood sacrifice for sin, but lives a long life, while ruling from the Temple in Jerusalem. Apparently the author of the fiction book "The DaVinci Code" used the Jewish prophecy about the real Messiah marrying and having children, in his book. As for pinning that Jewish prophecy on Jesus, who was not the real Messiah (which you can see by looking around you at the world - war, illness, etc. still exist) - you'd have to first understand that Jesus never existed. The story of Jesus in the new testament is exactly the same, word for word, even down to the things he says, as much earlier pagan saviour stories such as with Osiris, Krishna, and Mithra.

If there is anything true about The DaVinci Code novel and movie, it is that it is riddled with heretical supposition with large dollops of pure fiction. According to a number of documentaries, notably on A&E and on the History Channel, authorities debunk the book for factual inacurracies and gross distortion. Even facts presented in the so-called Gnostic Bible books that were said to be surpressed by the Chruch are in error according to these sources. The Catholic Church has refused to comment, fearing lending any credence to the story. I have perused the book and seen the movie and it is a highly entertaining fiction, which is all the author really meant it to be, I believe.

Both the movie and the book stem from Dan Brown's imagination and are NOT based on historical or theoretical facts. The book is purely fiction, yet Dan Brown makes this bold statement on his novel's "Fact" Page, "All descriptions of artwork, architecture, documents, and secret rituals in this novel are accurate."

Despite this assertion, both Historians and Theologians have repeatedly refuted these "facts". One of the most insidious aspects of this book is that it clothes itself in the mantle of history. The main character of the book is a historian who consistently spouts conjecture, theory, and gross historical inaccuracies, as though they were well-known and well-accepted historical facts.

The effect of this literary device is to give an air of credibility to a piece of writing that would otherwise be in-credible. Had this book been written as a paper and submitted to a history journal, it would have been rejected outright for its numerous fallacies and blatant historical errors.

If you go to Dan Brown's website and click on Common Questions, you will see him try to back pedal his way out of his previous stance that the history the novel is based on is accurate. The bottom line is that everyone loves a conspiracy, and Dan Brown has capitalized on it. Fiction? Yes. Fact? Absolutely not!

This is a reply to best answer at the very top.
Absolutely not? You unequivocally and emphatically address a situation which you yourself have no proof to deny or admit as truth. Me thinks you protest to much! Is it pure speculation on your part as to whether this is a pure figment of Dan Browns imagination? On one hand you wish to admit to certain truths self-evident while at the same time trying to tear down his story as a house of cards. What makes you such a scholar as to the veracity of a holy grail, without providing evidence while in the same breath only offering some weak name calling. I would almost wonder if you are at the same time as trying to discredit the church as to working in the shadows to help reinforce church doctrines. Accusing church hierarchy of having something to hide. Well, of course, they did you ninny. The only true statement you can claim about the church is that they might have something to hide when in fact that is all they have been doing, is hiding facts which have helped them keep a tight grip on the chains of destiny that have binded men to the very seat of the Catholic church's seat of power and even deeper still to help all organized religion to claim a manifest destiny in helping mankind to a much better and brighter future
