Probably take a course in audio engineering if you haven't already. After that all you'de really need to do is apply for the job I guess.

You don't "get signed" to be a producer. You study business and then you apply for the job. If you don't have any experience in the music business, start out small. Intern at a label in LA or New York. Getting a degree in music business will greatly help your chances, but a degree in business is fine, too. Send your resume out, and start as small as you need to. Then work your way up from there. Unless you are a millionaire and start your own label, it is very unlikely that you will immediately start out as a producer.

jus send ur stuff to a producer n if they lik it then they'll sign u if not.. dont let that bring u down if that ur true dream.. n if u can do it by urself u can be ur own producer.. haha.. well dat might be too hard.. jus look out for da little things.. n put urself out there.. communicate..

Take them thousands of $$ because producers get the business side rolling . . .
invest a large portion of your portfolio with them.
