No, it is not illegal.

The flag rules which all refer to are simply suggestions of how to treat and use the American flag. They have no basis in law.

If American boy scouts were burning an American flag, they were doing the right thing. If a flag gets worn or too dirty, it is to be burned. This is actually by law. Same with flying the flag upside down as a distress signal, or at half-mast to honor the war dead. Now burning the flag outright is not illegal. Other countries do it when we're not giving them enough money in aid so they can kill us when we visit.

Flag Burning and Flag Desecration:
Flag burning, or any other physical desecration of the American flag, is an issue that sparks strong emotions. Some — mostly Republicans, but also some Democrats — regard burning the American flag as a form of blasphemy. It is a sin against "civil religion" in America, not unlike a sin against an established church. Attempts to ban flag desecration by statute have repeatedly failed, so now people seek to ban it by passing a constitutional amendment.

Respect for flag requires it be burned only in ceremony to destroy it when it becomes torn or dirty. Many Americans have died for that flag & feel offended when you burn it.

The first law was passed after the Civil War to stop people with showing contempt for the Northern goverment. The last was passed to stop Viet Nam protestors from burning flag. The Supreme Court again "made" law by over ruling the laws to allow burning of flags. Congress has made 7 attempts to make a Constitutional Admendment to protect the honor of the flag.

If an American flag touches the ground it cannot be used again. It must be burnt. Usually people donate it to the boyscouts because they will perform a ceremony and then burn it but yes you can burn it yourself.

Not at all. In fact, this is the proper manner of disposal of worn out, retired flags. (As long as you don't try to make a public statement out of it.)

No, burning the flag is considered "speech" and thus is constitutionally protected.

no its not illegal but it should be because its like pissing on your ancestors graves its DIS-RESPECTABLE and if I ever saw someone burning our flag I would have to say "you don't like her leave her!!!!!"

UNLESS if its worn out or ragged but it has to be cerimonial not like "hey im going to go light a big camp fire and throw this old flag in it"

although I don't agree with it, it is not illegal. It's supposed to be your symbolic freedom of speech.

Again, I don't agree with burning the flag.

God bless you.
