I'm sure at one time it was okay. At some point in our society someone decided that it was unacceptable for women bare their breasts in public. If we had accepted it as normal years ago, people wouldn't think anything of it today. However, society has accepted it as wrong, so now I think it is too late to change it. If all of a sudden someone decided it would be okay for women to bare their breasts, many people would have a problem with it and women would probably be in danger of sexual harrasment and other abuse. You do make a good point though. Think back to the 60's. Hippies sure didn't have a problem with it. I guess it's just the times we live in.

It's been legal in Canada for a few years after a court challenge on just this question. There is an annual march on the Peace Bridge in Niagra Falls. Women can bare their breasts in public whenever they want. And you know what? After the ruling, it was no big deal. Tempest in a C cup.

In some places (such as Canada & New York State) it's legal for a woman to go without a top anywhere a man can do so. Interestingly, in New York State it became legal for men to go without their tops in the 1930s but it wasn't until the 1980s that it became legal for women to do so. That's largely due to the sexualization of women's breasts. In NYS nobody is required to go shirtless in public, but now all have the freedom to do so. Most States haven't followed New York's lead on this, and in most States it remains illegal for women to go without tops in public unless specifically designated otherwise.

this is why

it started out that women wore bras because it helps keep you perky and not looking like your on National Geographic

so those girls are used to being covered up

and because of that ... we evolved to the point where it is considered unacceptable in the States for women to bare their chests

and now of course it's an issue because well....it'd be such a big issue to be naked

Although it's dressed up in language of decency and sexual morality, the truth is that female breasts have power over most men and therefore must remain hidden.

As a gay man, this actually works to my advantage, as I do enjoy the sight of a good set of pecs but have no interest in seeing any chick's dirty pillows.

It is because society has always had double standards when in regards to male and female. I think that it goes back to the bible when Eve is told "women cover thyself", after eating the forbidden fruit. After that a womens body was considered shameful. Also the bible states that a womens body is only to be viewed by her husband.

I personally don't agree with this double standard.

Because a man's chest isn't considered a sexual object like a woman's breasts are. It doesn't make any sense, true, but then again, can you imagine all the men trying to cop a feel because they think it is ok because "she" is walking around topless, saying she was"teasing" him or saying "she should've put her shirt on if she didn't want anyone to touch her". Unfair, but its just as bad as the rape issues.

Most men would agree that this is completely unfair. The only thing that you can do to instigate change is to encourage as many of your female friends as possible to "fight the power" by removing your shirts in public. You have to try to take it to the streets and don't let anyone stop you from expressing yourself.

i don't understand, whether this is not honest. women human beings's breasts and nipples also have a objective, feeding infants. i think of that ladies human beings would desire to be allowed to be topless anyplace men are. perhaps then while somebody breastfeeds in public human beings won't stare and be all bowled over approximately that. i hit upon it offensive that others are indignant with the aid of breasts. All women human beings would desire to sense insulted with the aid of this, heavily.

Because society's standards dictate the law. It wasn't always unacceptable for women to bare their breasts. Or one breast, if you wanted to be stylish. I blame religion for most of the world's prudery. Which was invented by men, so you can understand why it's okay for them to bare their chests.
