My daughter started fighting sleep around that same age too.
It could be teething, sometimes the pain can keep them up.
Or, it could be that he is at the age where he is learning new skills all the time, noticing things that he has not before, and is too excited to sleep (this was how my daughter was).
I started getting my daughter in a routine of calming down about an hour before bedtime. I gave her a bath, then sat down and read or looked at books, then bedtime. The calm transition between the excitement of the day, and nighttime really helped us out.
Good luck!

Well I have a 2 year old and a 7 month old. They don't want to sleep at all. Thats a good question u ask. I just let them stay up until they get tired on they own. Try putting her in the bed with u at night. My 7 month old don't sleep by him self unless I put him in the bed with me. He will sleep like the baby he is.

My 11month old does this.....drives me up the wall with guilt!! I feel like such a bad mom everynight....leaving the nursery with her crying. It takes her about 30 minutes to cry herself to sleep EVERY NIGHT!! Some babies just don't want to go down....they want to stay with mamma or daddy. They want to fun to never end....
Here's a question....does your daughter breastfeed and if so is she drinking caffiene?
How long do they let him cry before going back in there?? It may just be time to let him tough it out. Seriously. If he knows eventurally someone will come get him...he will keep crying.
I would not use actifed because the drug in that will make him drowsy and that isn't beneficial. That could actually be quite harmful!!
Talk to the pediatrician.??
Good luck....

Went through the same thing til 13 months. Tried it all, and I was a nervous sleepless wreck. Now that my twins are 3, we are going through it all over again. Believe me, it's frustrating. People call them the energizer bunnies. I suggest a white noise machine, or calming instrumental music they sell cds at Target. I am using them now, its starting to work, but I still have to put them back at least 3-5 times, which is better than 20. good luck!

It sounds weird, but make sure the kid is getting a nap during the day. Babies need 12 to 14 hours of sleep and when they are overtired they get restless and fight sleep. When overtired babies finally fall asleep they wake up often and worsen the situation.

Falling asleep in the night and waking up presently after is a classic sign of over-tiredness. At this age while they are overtired they could get particularly worked up and over-excited and complicated to settle. Is she getting adequate day sleep? in the event that they don't get adequate it makes your evenings very complicated. you ought to furnish her certainly one of those gel teethers which you cool in the refrigerator to take to mattress. She's sufficiently old to comprehend day from night and to be able to self-settle. this is from Kim West's e book good night Sleep Tight - an staggering e book approximately sleep in toddlers and toddlers and that i particularly like her sleep-coaching technique... toddlers at this age want on elementary want 11 hours of sleep at night and 3 in the process the day. At 9 months, toddlers could desire to nap for extra or less an hour and a 0.5 in the morning and approximately one and a 0.5 to 2 hours in the afternoon.

Yes. I have a suggestion. If you figure out how to cure this, let me know. My two year old STILL DOESN'T SLEEP ALL NIGHT and he barely naps! My husband and I have to sleep in shifts to take care of the kid and make sure we each get at least a little sleep.
Evidently it runs in my husband's family. Yikes.

My 3 month old fights sleep. Try a warm bath with calming bath lotion, it usually works for me.
