My OBGYN told me that I have polycystic ovarian syndrome but I do not believe her. The only symptom that I have is that I have not had my period in 13 months. I have taken many pregnancy tests over the last year and I am obviously not pregnant. I also had an ultrasound done for cysts, and nothing. The only results that I have had turn up something were my blood tests. The doctor said that they gave me that diagnosis because of my LH and FSH ratios, but I had nothing wrong with my levels of androgens or thyroid. Does anyone have any ideas because my doctor is seriously lacking some customer service skills?

What are the symptoms of PCOS?
The most common symptoms of PCOS are an irregular period, infertility, increased hair growth and unusual weight gain, even with dieting or increased exercise. Women with PCOS will often go for months without a period and then start bleeding heavily for days. This occurs when the uterine lining has gotten too thick and the body must naturally shed it. Because PCOS disrupts ovulation it can be very difficult to become pregnant.

Other signs of PCOS include acne, high blood pressure, obesity, and abnormal facial and body hair growth (due to too much testosterone). One of the less recognizable symptoms of PCOS is depression, which can be misread as a bipolar illness. While depression stems from many factors, we think it is always a good idea to consider PCOS if patients have other symptoms. In some medical practices antidepressants are prescribed which do not alleviate the underlying issues and therefore are not very helpful.

I just copied the symtoms of the disease go to the site listed below it offers a lot more information on pcos and great information on other issues women have.

Good Luck

I have the same disease. I had no period for 4 years. I had no other symptoms(cysts, hormone levels etc) same as you. BUT that dosent mean that you wont eventually will. I had checkups every 3 months and eventually i did start having cysts and all the other side effects that come with polly disease you dont always have symptoms up front. Also its very difficult to become pregnant b/c people like us go not ovulate regurally. I had to go on hormone pills and do some fertiatlly treatments. Please listen to your Dr b/c they know what they are doing and whats best for you. Are you over wait at all by any chance? I was and when i lost even just a little weight my symptoms started changing on my own. If you want go to another Dr and tell them the situation and get a 2nd opinion for your comfort. There are also many websites on the net to help you out but just ask dr for more info so you can learn about your situation. Hope this is of some help. Good Luck i know this is a hard situation to go through:)

Yes, you can have PCOS without having the cysts. Was your total testosterone level elevated or high in range? This can indicate PCOS. Also elevated insulin and glucose levels and low levels of progestrone.

It was good your doctor tested the thyroid too, as many with PCOS are also hypothyroid. You'd want the TSH below 2.0, for if it's above 2.0 it could indicate the thyroid is slowing down too.

Treatment for PCOS is usually Metformin and reducing carbs.

Your FSH is your female hormone level. If it's elevated it can indicate polycystic ovaries and the history of no periods for that length of time is also a symptom.

If you don't think your doctor knows what she is doing, then why go to her? Find a different doctor.

Why would she be lying about it..?

She is the doctor here.. not you.

If you are that worried - go see another doctor.
