Today I was at a store where they sell very fashionable jewelry and clothing. After my purchase my sister told me that, "I dressed white". I was like, what? Are you serious! So, my question is the following....Is there such a thing like dressing white, black, hispanic, or asian? I know each ethnic group has their own style, but why is it considered white or black to dress a certain way? Do I make sense?

yes you do make sense and yes certain type of styles are affiliated to certain groups but just because one group is known to wear a certain type of clothes does not mean the others cant and it's wrong for someone to make a judgement about you but just looking at what your wearing

You do make sense, and yeah, that is pretty stupid. Certain people wear certain things, but there's no such thing as dressing white, black, hispanic, or asian. Maybe u're sister's a little racist?
Anyway, society's just stereotyped. Don't let it get to you. Life is good!yeah

As a black person i do find that the majority of each ethnic group dresses differently. But it more depends on the area you live in and the people you come in contact with. If you are black and you are with a lot of black people and you are in a certain area ofcourse people are going to say you dress black or white. But realistically in todays society it's not really that stupid

That is the most dumbest thing I have ever heard of. Yes everyone dresses a certain way in their culture. But people all dress the same when wearing everyday clothes. Your sister hasnt a clue as to what she is talking about. Be who you are not what your sister thinks is "white"

Fashion depends on individuals. If you feel comfortable and you like what you are wearing, that's you. So no, there's no such thing as looking white or asian or black.

Yah you make sense. There are stores and styles in certain stores that a black person would just not ever shop in.
When was the last time you saw a black girl in Abercrombie or Hollister?
Clothing styles are just another part of our respective cultures. Everyone dresses a certain way, whether its for religous beliefs, or just practical, like weather or terrain. Just buy what you like. Tell your sister to shop outside the box!

Yes you do make tons of sense. I think its wierd, but very true. Like every time i wander into the ecko or rockawear section in Macys i feel like i dont belong there because of the way its stereotyped. I guess its who shops at which places that determines the way others percieve the clothes as. I am not saying its right, but thats how it is.

That's not true. Did you get it from the white's only section? Everyone has their own style of dressing so don't start stereotyping because of what your sister said. They make different styles for different occasions and personal preference, not race.

Oh i totally get what you mean, to mean, there is the typical asian slutty style that some girls at my school stupidly think looks cute, and like for whites girls, some of the poor things wear typical clothing, like hollister and AE t-shirts with lots of layers paying extensively to be walking bilboards. So i guess it's just the stereotype.
