You know when DJ's or anyone else takes a normal song from a regular artist, and turns it into a dance song, is there a special name for them? Or know of anywhere where i can find them? Usually i just find them randomly.
Thanks =)

There are your traditional remixes. Remixes are usually renamed for the DJ that mixed them and the style they mixed it in. For example let's say Oakenfold remixes a song by Beyonce. You'd have the song title then something like (oakenfold's hard house mix). There are no rules to naming remixes but a pattern is usually followed.

To be a remix it must contain the original lyrics either in whole or partial and the original beats it can be slowed down, sped up or have various different samples or instruments added. The song can either be under the original artists name and song title or can be under a different name or title for example...

Staic Revenger has remixed Need You Tonight by INXS and Long Time by Boston he lists both songs under the artists name but as the Static Revenger remix.Neither of those songs was originally a dance song.

Some dance artists will completely redo an old song like when Deep Dish did Dreams by Steve Nicks using her vocals or when Aurora UK redid Duran Duran's Ordinary World or more recently when Infernal did Laura Branigan's Self Control. These are simply dance covers. Like when pretty much any band does a cover tune.

Finally the new trend is mash ups. This is when lyric tracks are layered over the background music such as when 50 Cent's In Da Club was mixed with the Bee Gee's Stayin' Alive.

Perhaps the largest library of remixes and dance covers and mash ups can be found at the party mecca www.ministryofsound.com the ULTIMATE dance music website. You can also check amazon.com and do a search for ministry of sound compilations plus Thrive records and Ultra Records. You can also do a search for mashups on limewire.

I search for the track I like and then search for any titles of that song with DJ trance mix, or London club mix.... something like that after the title of the song. One of my favorites is Enrique Iglesias - Escape (Moroder & Garibay club mix). I love to burn entire cd's of nothing but dance mixes of my favorite non-dance songs.
