My boss owns a windfarm. He also raises some plants to produce a diesel like substance. They are like weeds, but not the famous one, and require little care. He said the plants he raises are far more productive than corn or hemp for production of vegetable oil. He uses that stuff in his equipment and generator, and could convert a diesel car to run on that stuff. I would hate to live in the country like that, but he does have a lot of excess capacity for what he needs.

I would also walk and bicycle a lot more than I do now.

As for myself, I do nothing, there is nothing I can do about it.

As for the oil company's, I'm sure that they will have ethanol, coal derived synthetic fuel, or some other substitute just waiting and ready to go once they have squeezed the last drop out of OPEC and the last dollar from the consumer.

Now if all the gas is gone because some world wide catastrophic war destroyed all the oil wells, pipelines, tankers, refineries and so forth, then it just may be the least of our troubles.

I guess in the big picture, automobiles have only been around for a century, so I guess we take a step back and ride horses and wagons again. Good point, we better be thinking about that real soon!
