I did a stand up job in a factory for 7 yrs. And still doing one now. Just get some comfortable shoes. You will get use to it after a few days. There are days you will be cranky & irritable, but I dont think that is because you will be standing up for 8 hrs.

Every so often step in the back, bend over and touch your toes. This will help stretch your back and alleviate some of the tiredness. Try not to stand in one place, in one position for too long. Walk briefly back and forth if there aren't any guests to be taken care of. Your first few nights though you will probably be too busy learning new applications and job duties to be standing in one place for too long. When you get your break make sure you go to the breakroom. If it's not crowded, put your feet up on a chair under the table until your break is over. Drink a lot of water which will help prevent you getting as tired as quickly, and will help your muscles keep from tightening up as much. Eating bananas (potassium) is good also.

When you get home take a couple of ibuprofen before you go to bed, and then start over the next day.

Good luck on your new job.

Wow, good luck! I'd probably do a little pacing back and forth and stretching whenever you get the chance. And when you get home, have a nice warm foot bath waiting for you!

I am confident you get breaks, or at least lunch. Sit then.
