why do we put our hand on a bible to swear?

Why does it say "In God We trust" on our money? Because "law" all descended from God's law....the Ten Commandments. It is difficult to separate law with religion because religion set the first law which is still pretty much the basis for our most serious laws.

You don't have to swear on the Bible in court anymore, and generally, the swearing in consists of an affirmation that consists of basically, "Do you swear to tell the whole truth and nothing but the truth," or some other variant that involves the witness or declarant promising to tell the truth.

some people believe that america is a "christian nation."
i dislike how God is all inside our government. religion should be in the home, in the church. there is a difference between morals and religion.
the first muslim to be elected to congress made his oath on the koran, i think. if i ever have to go so, i'd rather swear on the constitution or something.

You don't have to. I've never seen that done in an actual courtroom, only on television.

you dont have to, and they rarely ask you to, ive been to court at least 8 times and never been asked to do so

i havent been to court once in my life but if i ever do i will never for no amount of money touch that book

beacuse people insist on bringing personal opinions into public affairs
they feel that everyone should think what they think and feel what they feel and if they dont they they are the ones at fault
