As it changes, you may lose your mucus plug and find a gooey deposit in your underwear or on the toilet tissue after wiping. It is not uncommon for this mucus to be mixed with brown, pink, or red streaks of blood from the changes occurring within your cervix. Some women may lose the plug at 36 weeks' gestation, while many others may not lose it until labor has begun. Sometimes moms-to-be may not even notice that they are losing their mucus plug because it happens gradually, over several weeks, and they've already grown accustomed to varying but increased amounts of the vaginal discharge that often accompanies a normal pregnancy. The mucus plug is usually a whitish "mucus" color with red, brown, or pink. If you are really curious, here is a link to a picture of one. (Not for the squeemish)

If it's white it's most likely just discharge. Your plug is a lot of mucous, more than you'd think. It has some blood in it also and it looks like snot (gross I know!) I didn't lose mine until I was in early labor. I gave birth about 12 hours after I lost it.

I lost mine while going pee in the hospital...they had me pee in a cup, and when I went to put the lid on the cup there was mucous and blood in it (yucky!) and when I wiped there was a lot more of it! I had to wipe like 3-4 times to get it all (sorry if this is too much info, haha, but just letting you know my experience!)

I remember loosing my mucus plug. It was distinctive. It is very commom to loose mucus in you last few weeks of pregnacy. When you start to loose mucus you are really close. My mucus plug was not bloody. It was about two to three inches long and cylinder shaped. I was in actual labor at that time. Sometimes you will not loose your mucus plug before you are in advanced labor like five minuted apart and your bag of waters may not break and you will have to have it broken like I did. Congratulation. You are about to have the most beautiful and painful experience in your life. It is no feeling like seeing your baby for the first time.

When I had my son I noticed a lot of mucus while wiping after I went to the bathroom. Immediately after that I had what felt like mild menstrual cramping that began getting more and more consistent. The pain didn't start getting that bad until 17 hours later though. Hope this helps!

You will know when it happens - plus it is not really a "plug." Before I had my son (about four days before and right up to the delivery) I had a really thick mucus like discharge. It was thick and clear (like snot almost) at first, then turned brownish-pink, and before I went to the hospital it turned red. I just noticed it because I felt really wet and when I wiped it came out in a long snot like thing. I know it sounds gross, but that is what it looks like.

The mucus plug is usually a little bloody. I would call your doctor tomorrow and ask them what they think. It is normal to have excess secretion when you are pregnant which may be what you are seeing.

Good luck and congrats!
