There are many reasons, some of which you have identified. Of all the things you listed, media, violence sex, drugs etc... reflect the upbringing, availability and morality of the parents. Also, the culture we live in does not celebrate good values, and ethics. We are entering an age where cellular phone companies are marketing porn, TV station programming is partially funded by internet gambling companies and reality TV (an oxymoron) is the most watched programming.
So yes, we are again in a decadent, corrupt age where many live in complete denial, evasion, and indifference to the impeding social and environmental issues while completely deluding and sedating themsleves with the toys and media etc...
Well so were the Romans and look what happened! Theres always a time of peril and a time of new awakening, and I believe we are at the nexus of such an age and it has nothing to do with religion.

the growing society of politically correct, less emphasis on right and wrong,, plus its easier to get hands on guns, lots of anger in the media and games, a lot of acceptance to death and pain in general, parents that work more and hv little time to guide their children and hope "they'll grow out of it"
there are tons of reasons. sometimes i wonder if all the advancements we've made are worth it.. it seems to have hurt family values as people race towards personal success and recognition at the workplace,, which seems more important than being known as providing the support and guidance for their families. being a role model.
there is much truth to hindsight and those you hear about on their deathbed regretting their life choices, you can't take money with you. superficial success means little in the end if it cost you your family.

Parents.. Children these days cannot look upon their parents as role models. Parents blame anyone and anything else for the stupid decissions they make. Instead of teaching children values, integratity, and consiquence parents put tv , video games, and many other non-brain stimulating things in front of them. It also takes 2 parents to raise a child. Not one and the other sometimes visiting or just paying child support. All anyone cares about anymore is themselves. We are a self-fish, self-centered, sociopathic society.

hm. I see were your coming from, I also think its the media, like TV, movies, Internet, they are all things that children can just get right on and just ruin there minds with the violence and sex. good question but I'm afraid it doesn't look like there is any end in sight for this "new age" if you will.

your thoughts certainly shed light
i have said for quite a while that "this generation has perfected ignorance"
i am 40+ and have seen ignorance in my day (which doesn't compare to these days)
what is so different now as opposed to then?
water is still water
food is still food
peer pressure is still peer pressure
media is still media
the big difference is parenting
back then we had curfews, bedtime, homework (checked) before going out to play, periodically checking in at home while out...
and when discipline was warranted...we picked our switches
most importantly there was love and more love
my mom worked nights but my grandmother and great-grandmother were there, always someone
to this day i never regret their support
i could go on and on but i believe these kids need to pick their switch and face the music
heck, i didn't turn out so bad

You pretty much answered it yourself. The youth is so vulnerable and so naive and the world is constantly throwing out what we should look and act like that it totally messes us up. Part of it is also the adults out there responsible for beer ads and whatnot that persuade the youth to take on these actions.

Baby, it's not the media.
For instance, look at Enron....what example do kids have? Look at Adelphia, WorldCom, etc. ad nauseum.
Monkey See, Monkey Do!
Kids nowadays use every tool under the sun to cheat. It's pitiful, but they are forced into it by society, not the media. Society says they need to be 1st at everything so they cheat.
This world is going to hell in a handbasket so fast my head is spinning.

i think your right people today see more violence than ever before they become desensitized to it.
children are very impressionable they are like little sponges soaking up all they see what they see is what they do.
parents should not allow there children to watch such rubbish
my children don't watch or play games that are violent and they are well adjusted non violent children.
some parents don't care what there kids do as long as they are not bothering them, then they whinge cause there kids get into trouble and wonder y.

What if young people weren't any different than they were, say thirty years ago? What if people were simply more open and less concerned about image? What if the media simply reported it more?

Every generation since the beginning of time has said that the following generation is terribly corrupted. But, the species hasn't self-destructed yet!
