Here are some ideas.....
A pond theme.....dragonflies, frogs, fish
Safari theme.....African Animals
Butterflies
Ladies on Trapezes (I am starting to see a lot of these toys around....they hang from the ceiling. I finally got one and my 11month old stares at it and stares at it!!)
Anne Gedes.....
Garden Theme....flowers, ladybugs, bumblebees
Alphabet Block Theme
Handprint and Footprint Theme
***For her babyshower....when you finally decide on a theme....you should get a custom designed diaper cake!!! Doubles as both the centerpiece and the gift to mom!!!***

When I was pregnant with my son (who I swore was going to be a girl!),I really like the precious moments collection. After finding out it was a boy, I decided on baby Sesame street, which is great for a girl or boy.
Your sister should do the baby shower theme the same as the baby's room decor because people will usually base thier gifts on the theme of the shower. And if she gets ballons, she can use them to decorate for a little while.

Good luck and congrats to your sister!

As a theme for a room, I would choose something cute that the child will not outgrow in a few years.
I did my daughter's room in Baby Loony Tunes, but after spending tons of money on the baby decor, she quickly outgrew it. After one year, her room is now done in a garden theme, with flowers, lady bugs, butterflies, etc. This will grow with her, and it is something she will enjoy for quite a while.

Lavender and sage is a great combination. It works well with a lot of things. It also won't seem too childish as she gets older. Check out a local baby store for ideas, they usually have great displays. Bugs and butterflies and flowers can be cute.

We did my daughter's room in greens and yellows and muted blues--and in fish..like turtles, tropical fish, octupus and stuff. It was really cute AND was a safe backup just in case she was a he. The way we figured, it would be better for a girl to have some fish and blues than for a boy to have pink ballerinas. Noahs ark is cute too

I personaly really dislike theme rooms. How about this for a theme - "I will be sitting in this room at 3am for many months so I better like it a lot" theme. The kid doesn't care what color their room is. You will get tired of the theme before they even realize what the theme is.
Do yourself a favor - wait until they can pick a theme for their room and just decorate it in a way that you like.
We did our daughters room in butterscotch, burgundies, dark wood furniture and NOTHING PINK! Everyone was horrified. We loved it.

I did my daughters in the baby looney tunes theme. It was really cute, it had taz, bugs, tweetie etc all wearing diapers. I had the whole set, bedding, mobile, decals for the wall. It was really cute!

Rainbows! You have a variety of colors and you can coordinate with anything! I wished I would of used that instead of Looney Tunes.
