Playing any game is beneficial as it can assist in mental and physical development or improvements, not to mention can assist in relieving stress.

Online gaming, especially cooperative team games, helps with your social skills especially learning how to work with others as a team.

In team sports, you learn how to work as a team but the individual typically needs a few physical attributes and skills to stay with the team. With online games, the playing field is more level so more people have more opportunities to work with others in a team setting.
