i just read on the web there has been and i quote 'over 200 ecstacy related deaths in the uk since 1996' is it just me or is that really low considering how popular the drug is? im pretty sure alchol related deaths are in the tens of thousands (but im gonna check that up). the article was selling that as a bad point but to me it makes it sound very safe (ive never tried it so im totally unbiased), what a weird country we live in.

then again i suppose statistically you cant really measure an illegal drug as well you can an legal one but still thats an astounding difference. why is alchol legal anyways? it seems a lot more dangerous than many other drugs

good point young ugs, i guess my question is why is this drug painted so badly by the media when all statistics show it in a good light? (and people e'd up look very happy also and generally dont start fights like drunk people, although they do drool a lot)

I'm not sure what your question is... but yes im willing to bet alot of the people who died from taking ecstasy would have had heart defects they were not aware of before taking the drug too. Alcohol is far more dangerous than ecstasy.
I have done some incredibly stupid things whilst drunk whereas with ecstasy i have only looked incredibly stupid.

I see your point and agree with it. Of those 200 who even knows what else it was combined with or how many pills were consumed? I am no advocate of legalizing potentially dangerous drugs, but as far as your alcohol comparison, that's a slam dunk. To add to your point regarding alcohol, how many people...
1. Run others over with their cars while on Ecstasy?
2. Commit domestic violence on Ecstasy?
3. Become a burden to the tax paying public with health related problems due to their many years of Ecstasy abuse?
Not many of any of the 3 to be sure.
There are probably LEGAL PRESCRIPTION DRUGS that have killed more people either through misuse or even side effects in the UK then the 200 Ecstasy related deaths.
Wow, 200? Never would have known it would be that low. I am sure that is of no comfort to the families of those who have died, but statistically speaking, it's virtually safe.
I was thinking of taking up Raving and this clinches it! Thanks! No that was a a joke. I have never taken this particular drug and have no plans to but thanks for the research related question. Interesting.

I am in no way in support of drug taking or any kind. However, we should see the death toll from taking Ecstasy in comparison with the death toll on UK roads during the same period (1996-2006). Shocking.
Add to this the death toll from tobacco smoking related illnesses and wow! you get some scary numbers. Right?

Alcohol is legal because it needs to be so it can be regulated. Look what happened in the US when they outlawed it. Things got a LOT worse that when it was legal. Ecstacy is a more dangerous drug, you need to look at the percentages. How many people drink? now how many people die? You would need to do the same for ecstacy

I think more people die annually in the USA from toilet related freak accidents than die of this drug.
The real cost of ecstasy, however, will be a lot of mental illness.
This was always going to be the case as drugs take out of you what they put into you. ie A drug that makes you feel ecstatic will cost you future happiness.

Yes the death rate is statistically low, but try telling that to the parents and friends of those who die!
