Intel (and MB manual) instruct to enable hyperthreading in Bios BEFORE installing an op sys --- why ? If it was set w/o hyperthreading B4 XP Home was installed, is it safe to enable afterwords ? What harm can happen ? I wish to do some speed tests and toggle back and forth -- OK to do so ?

It is ok to do so, the only minor problem is that everytime you change the hyperthreading setup in your computer Windows will readjust itself again due to the change in settings.

What that setup does is let the operating system know what is in the bios setting so that the drivers can be installed for it,, you can set it up as you like, and hope xp has the drivers for it,, if it don't then it won't work and may be freeze at bootup one can only try these things out and learn from ones mistakes
