An "under-grad" is a college student who has NOT yet earned a bachelor's degree (which usually takes at least 4 years of college). So....a freshman, sophomore, junior and senior college student is also considered an "under-grad" student. Hope this helps. . .

Like high school, college students are labeled according to their year. Until a student graduates, they are considered an undergrad or undergraduate. If a student has completed the equivalent of 4 years or earned a bachelor's degree and returns to college, they are considered a graduate student.

Undergraduate means someone who is attending a college or university. An undergraduate degree is a Bachelors of Arts or Science. It by no means mean that someone is not graduating from school. In fact, there's still a large percentage of people in the U.S. without an undergrad degree. Graduate school is next after college/university and hence the name.. undergrad.
