The Internet because it allows you to ask a question to the world and get answers almost instantly...among other things. That concept couldn't even have been thought of even as early as the 1970s.

You can always cite all the great advances like flight, radio, films,etc.
To me without doubt the greatest invention has got to be pennecillin and the whole family of Antibiotics it gave way to. Millions of lives have been saved due to this medical breakthrough. In the early half of the century, illnesses and infections ravaged the world, as in the great flu pandemic of 1918.
Today, people get over in 2 weeks dosage, an illness that would have killed them just 75 years ago.
