all you have to do is make an equation and solve it.

You have the price before which is 219.5

The price after is 142.69

So what percentage off of 219.5 will give me 142.69
a percentage is no more than a decimal so

what i did was 219.5 times what percentage will give me 142.69
and to do this all you have to do is divide

142.69/219.5 = 0.6500683 or about 65%

so all you have to do is then take the inverse which is 100-65 which is 35% which is your answer
good luck

To get the percent discount, you need to know what the discount was. You get that by subtracting the price she should have paid from what she did pay:

219.50 - 142.69 = 76.81

Now you need to know what percent that is of the list price, so take the discount, multiply by 100 (for the "percent" part) and divide by 219.50:

76.81 * 100 / 219.50 = 35% (roughly)

So it was at a 35% discount.

take the price she bought it for and divide it by the price it was supposed to be. 142.69/219.50=0.65. That means that 142.69 is approximately 65% of 219.5. So, the MP3 player was discounted by 35%.

Sale Price=Original Price*Percent Paid
Percent Paid needs to be a decimal
142.69=219.50x
142.69/219.50=x
0.6501=x=65.01%
100-65.01=34.99
35% was the percent discount

The price paid is $142.69, which is $76.81 less than $219.50. $76.81 is 35% less than $219.50. So, he got a discount of 35% on the price of $219.50

219.50 - 142.69 = 76.81 (Difference in price)

76.81 / 219.50 = .35 = 35% (Percent change in price)

You have to back-work the average equation. If two people have an average of 64 cents, then: Total/2=.64 Total = .64 x 2 Total = 1.28 So, you and your friend have a total of $1.28.
