I was given a Rx for Folic acid (1mg) and wanted to know of it was alright that i take prenatal vitamins that contain folic acid as well. Can you take too much? We are going to start trying to have a baby in March, any other vitamins i should start taking? I just want to try to do my part in having a healthy baby. Thanks :)

Absolutely! Extra folic acid cannot hurt the baby or your eggs. Folic Acid helps with birth defects that can occur during the early stages of development, like in the first couple of weeks!

When I was pregnant the doctor gave me a prescription for the same, and I continued to take my regular prenatal vitamins.

Tips if you are planning to get pregnant: Your partner and you should eat healthier then ever! Eat a diet rich in veggies, fruit, and plenty of calcium. No matter what myths you have heard, while trying to get pregnant and up to three months before--it is important what you both eat.

Good Luck to you!! :)

i've heard while trying you can take folic acid and the prenatal as well that it will actually help increase the chances of a healthy egg. Once you find out stay with the prenatals only and ask the doc. if you should cont. or not.

Prenatal vitamins have WAY TOO MUCH IRON.

Just take the folic and a regular multivitamin, make sure it has less than 2,000 IU of vitamin A.

I honestly don't think you can get enough folic acid.

Yes. Why are you asking us idiots when you could may, say, ask your obstetrician or pharmacist? They have the real answers.
