I'm just looking for some input to see how others would handle a serious situation such as this.

I've been unemployed for 4 years. I have also sent out over 950 resumes and have never received a call for an interview. Within this last four years I have graduated from college and I'm still continously submitting resumes.

I was finally contacted this evening by an airline for an interview. However, unless I find some miracle way of getting to New Jersey or Huston by the 30th of January, I will never get that chance because I am broke. My car is 12 years old and not really capable of making that kind of journey, with the possible exception of New Jersey because I live in Michigan. Since this is the only opportunity that has knocked in 4 years I'm in near tears if I cannot get there. I know there is a chance that I could get there, have the interview and not be selected anyway, but I'll never know that unless I try.

I was just wondering what anyone else would do to get there

Your cheapest transportation(outside your car) would be the bus which is slow . Other than that you might go to some of the churches and ask them for help. If you have student load money available (credit) use it . or credit where ever youcan find it.
Your other problem is being able to live while you wait on that first pay check, even money home after the trip, an dback to the job..Your other option is to work as a waitress (waitresses often make up to 150 a day in tips which is fast cash and something y9u need now. You also at soemthing close by until you have travel money. such as walmarts, hamberger joint(most buger joints will hire someone with a degree and pay them into the 30,000 range hoping to keep them.
My son after 6 years of college also ran into a job problem. He was in most everyones words was over qualified for any job he applied for. He eventually landed a job working in computers net working(for which he luckly learned in vocation school before college. His was the same problem as many young people run into. They listen to the college professors whose only intentions is to keep a class full and ended up with useless degrees in somethjing he had noi interest in.
I would take a long look at what was available now with the idea of moving up later.

If nothing else pans out think of maybe a 3 year hitch in the military. It's according to your degree but you could start as an officer.

Good luck.

I work for an airline so maybe I can be of some help.

First you have to ask yourself why the airline won't give you a seat on one of its planes to get to the interview. When I got interviewed (and eventually hired) at my airline they gave me a non-rev pass to and from Indianapolis for the interview.

Second, you have to seriously consider looking at your resume and possibly reworking it. If you have sent out as many resumes as you say, there might be some fatal flaw in your resume. Have people look at it and give you suggestions. Maybe some of your teachers. Same with your cover letters.

Third, are you specifically going for an airline or aviation, or are you sending your resume out to every job you see. If you are sending out to every job that looks interesting to you, it might be good to have different resumes available highlighting the important aspects that you have that will make you a good fit for that job ie a resume for aviation, a resume for sales, a resume for customer service, etc etc.

Fourth, if aviation is your main interest, what in aviation are you aiming for? My company is always hiring dispatchers, flight attentdants, and pilots.

Fifth, good luck.

sure. this could be a rip-off. i replaced into ninety% specific in simple terms from the fact you asked, and a money order replaced into in touch. Any doubt I had replaced into OBLITERATED with the aid of the point out of Craigslit and a job. ok, now to verify your info. "i've got certainly gotten somebody for the situation published on line yet I certainly have this different place available." That on my own is irrefutable information of a rip-off. "you're able to do the paying for at Bestbuy, Kmart, Sears and Wal-Mart or the different shops. i will grant you my united statesaccount form for delivery." in the event that they do sufficient organization with united statesto HAVE an account, they don't need finished strangers to do their paying for.
