I am very proud to be an American but I do not think that we are the best nation. I have been to many other countries and they all have their strong points and weak points. It just depends what you think is important in your life. While I was in Germany I seen grown men bring their dogs to work and tie them up to a tree with plenty of shade with plenty of food and water. During breaks they would go out and spend time with their dogs. Most people also get to take half of Thursdays off to spend time with their families. They value family time over the convenience of 24 hour shopping. That is why Wal*Mart failed in Germany.
That is just one example but if you travel any at all you will find out for yourself that we are not the only forward thinking advanced nation on this great Earth. Just my $0.02.
Good question by the way!

It is only the best if you have not been to every other country to see for yourself. But ah, you aren't too interested, are you? Because you have already made up your mind? Remember that power and overabundance aren't what takes from other nations' greatness, but those wrongly skew a subjective perception of a nation's greatness by outsiders. America might be the most powerful and richest nation, but it lacks greatness in many areas:
organic (natural) agriculture
balance of natural habitat to human habitat
linguistic diversity in knowledge and practice
literacy in general
well-being (poor health care system)
safety from crime (such as guns). (although the statistics compared to Afghanistan give an appearance of safety, right?)
mortality rates (a few live to be hundred, but many more die early from heart disease, obesity, eating disorders, military deployment)
true democracy (the electoral college assumes that we the people can't make our own decisions.)

No it's not! I don't know if Canada is the best on the earth but it's better than the USA. Canada gives in to USA demands often in order to avoid war. USA often starts war with those that don't do what the USA asks. That's the way I see it! How can a waring causing nation ever be called the best nation? It sure isn't!
