Someone I know always laughs at my failures and big-talks his successes. One day I had a big problem so I swallowed my pride and asked for his help. Since then he is always nice and offers his help all the time. Is it just me or he is just strange ?

Before you asked for his advice, he wanted to prove to you that he's better and he was sticking it to you. Some people kick others while they're down without realizing that they're doing it. Since you asked for help, you have somewhat humbled down to him. And that makes him feel good and important because he feels that he has won your approval. He's somewhat not strange. Just typical of someone who has something to prove but doesn't know a better way to do so. He probably has always meant well, just the wrong delivery.

I don't hurt anyone if I can help it. This guy sounds like a real jerk, but I've met people like him before.

He has a need to feel 'superior' to you and until you 'acknowledge' that he's superior, he'll ride you constantly. By asking for his help, in his mind, you have admitted that he's smarter than you and that's all he needs for his ego and he can stop acting like a jerk.

Make no mistake about it though! He's STILL a JERK!
