There are 5 stages sleep: Lucid dreams are located in stage 4
Stage 1: You are still in a state of awakeness you are just begining to relax. There is where the alpha waves begin to dissapear (alpha waves in awake stage) and you are experiencing theta waves for the 1st time. It is sometime heard of as "Drowsy sleep" or "Somnolence" Here you can experience hypnic jerks and/or hypnagogic hallucinations. You begin to lose some muscle tone. It is the gateway between wake and sleep.
Stage 2: Your EMG lowers and conscious awareness of the external environment disappears. This stage occupes 45-55 % of total sleep.
Stage 3: Delta waves are now active it is part of SWS and functions primarily as a transition into stage for. this stage occupies 3-8% of total sleep
Stage 4: This stage is true delta sleep. It predominates the first third of the night and accounts for 10-15% of total sleep time. This often descrived as the deepest stage of sleep; It is exceedingly difficult to wake a subject in this state. This is the stage in which night terrors, bed wetting, sleepwalking and sleep-talking occur.
Stage 5 ( REM) - this is your dreaming stage. Expecially bizarre, visual, and seemingly random dreams; hower, dreams can also occur during sleep onset (hypnogogia) and during all stages of non rem sleep. You are also in a paralized stage.
So basically unless you are able to control your sleep cycle (which no one has been proven to be able to do by themselves yet) and repeat stage 4 over and over you are pretty much out of luck. The cycle basically repeats it starts with stage 1 then 2 then 3 then 4 then REM back to 4 to 3 to 2 to 1 and then starts all over. A little fun fact........... You will only remember a dream you are having when you wake up in the REM stage (the stage you have the dream in) . And when you wake up trying to remember a dream you know you had and you just can't remember you probably work up in stage 4 or 3. You have several a night and you just don't know it! :)
Dreams are a blast!

i don't remember that right now but if you could use the waves that are slower and higher, i think it could help your brain to enter the first stages. Sorry...

First, have a lucid dream in which you invent such a device. Then, make one from what you've learned in your dream.
