do not do it do it by yourself. why can't you go some where and get it done. it will hurt a lot more if you do it your self. i got it done at this one place and had no infection. later my friend tried it herself and it did not look good after that.
i know this from experience

There really isn't a way to pierce your own cartilage safely unless you can find a sterilized surgical needle and sterilized jewelry. Don't use a piercing gun. The jewelry used in a gun is too blunt and can lead to really ugly consequences. I would really get it professionally done at a piercing place. I know it's probably not the answer you wanted, but after seeing a friend of mine with an infection that grew to the size of a marble...I wouldn't take any chances.

Most places like Claire's and the Icing will pierce the cartilage part of your ear with a gun--- Piercing guns are ONLY GOOD FOR EAR LOBES. Don't use the gun on the cartilage part. I would def suggest going to a tattoo/piercing place that use a needle. They put a cork on the other side of the ear and push the needle thru. It's a lot more sanitary since they throw the needle away and is much more exact.

Have you only tried 1 ear? I know it sounds weird, but I, and lots of friends of mine have tried one ear, and it became infected, then pierced the other ear and never had any problems.
