I need a theme for a talent and awareness competition. From this contestants will create a costume for the creative wear section and right now my team and i are all blank.

I'm not sure if you are competing in the competition or holding the competition. I'm not really sure I totally understand what it is you are looking for but here are my silly thoughts on the matter, hopefully they might help somehow:
I can't tell you why but the first thing that popped into my mind when I read this question was "bugs" as in insects, lol. After actually thinking about it for about 30 seconds the next thing I thought was 'stripes'. And then I thought about the whole bug thing and how silly it was and THEN thought, well how about 'animals'? For animals you could pick an animal that inspires you and somehow have that influence your design. It could be interesting to hear your explanation as to how the animal influenced the design.
(If you are organizing the competition instead of participating in it just change the 'you' to 'they' and 'your' to 'yours')
