My friend called me and asked me to fill in the blank, and I had the word on the tip of my tongue but I couldn't tell her what it was. I hate it when that happens. In any case, the sentence was something to the extent of this:
Japanese students of some sort of religion (can't remember which) would learn from their mistakes and be a _______ to society.
I want to say something like asset or benefit, but the word I've got on the tip of my tongue isn't one of those. Please help?

I know it's not menace or anything negative. Something positive--credit maybe? If I said "Mother Theresa was a _____ to society," what would you put in that blank? That's the word I'm looking for.
