i have a regular workout routine but i am unsatisfied with my lack of progress. my body is fairly defined but i want a wider and larger chest and abs. i do crunches, dips, chest presses and butterfies(100lbs), sit ups, push ups, ect. but i dont seem to be gaining much bulk. any tips?

btw, i use a crossbow machine for most of the weight lifting and i have 35lbs dumb bells, but i only use them for bicep curls.

i definately cant do 100 pushups straight, so would it be as effective to do 3 sets of 33 push ups?

if this muscle growth thing is genetic, then i should be able to get as big as my dad, right? he used to be a big guy (he still is) when he played hs football and wrestling.

Pecs are grown by dips which work the upper part of the pectoral muscle and by decline bench press which works the lower part. Also for variety do incline bench (upper) and flat bench. Use dumb bells instead of barbells as it adds working your stability muscles.

If you already do dips and not getting much out of it. Maybe your body is already used to your body weight. Start weighted dips. Most gyms have a chain you can attach to your waist. If there is none. Just have someone place a weight plate to your bent crossed legs.

Happy Lifting.

the width of a muscle is genetically determined...

and the myth of being able to "sculpt" or "tone" a muscle is completely false..

Theres nothing you can do to make your muscles wider, but you can make them stcik out more with more bench pressing and exercise and that should satisfy you...

for abb width, work your obliques " love handles" to make them appear wider.. im sure there fine just work the obliques. i do and i have a good line that is on the side of my abbs, it makes them look bigger.

Also work the top chest to that will help.

Peace-

push ups work, well get a wide base and touch your chest to the floor, you can even put your feet on a chair, do 35-45 of those slowly and your chest will be burning...repeat 3-5 times

the only way to maximize muscle growth is to focus on compound exercises like; squats, bent over rows, barbell bench press, military press, dead lifts, close grip bench press, barbell curls, pull-ups/chins, etc.

along with sufficient nutrition to allow for muscle growth, you have to lift big to get big
