Aren't they as a result of their values more selfish people generally speaking?

Wow, Clearly a lot of republicans responded to this as I hoped. Looks like I pushed a sensitivity button. Not a lot of sober reflection as I hoped unfortunately.

To clarify, aren't the republican attitudes towards the poor and middle class. The attitudes toward economics, the environment, international relations etc. selfish? As for the constitutional and international law issues...Isn't the patriot act, The erosion of civil liberties, the manipulation of the war on terror, the flaunting of the UN and international law, an illegal war, violation of the geneva convention etc. driven by republican ideals?

Th whole point of Republicanism is self-aggrandizement.

Read John Dean's book "Conservatives Without Conscience."

He goes through years of research into the conservative personality.

It's more then a character flaw.

It's a personality disorder.

The man has already been cleared by the democrat-lead investigation that was conducted at the time, so this is strictly a dirty politics smear-job by the New York Times - something they specialize in. However, I think you have it backwards when it comes to either party and scandal. I seem to recall that everytime a republican gets caught in some scandal, or says something that someone else finds "offensive", he is forced to resign any leadership position he may occupy and maybe even his seat of office. Whenever a democrat does the same, it's swept under the rug by the thugs cohorts and nothing is ever heard again. I do not condone misbehavior by either party. Anyone conducting any sort of malfeasance while in elected office should be required to immediately resign that office if proven guilty. But it never happens that way.

You spelled Democrat wrong. -jk-
I don't think voting for either party is a character flaw.
And I don't think that Republicans are more selfish. We donate our time, talents, money and other resources as often if not more than Democrats.

They have about as many flaws as the liberals!!! TO be human is to be flawed!! Selfish to want to do away with abortion? Selfish to want capital punishment!! Nobody can honestly see that as selfish!! Selfish not to want to see the United States end up with socialize medicine? Look and see what happens to people who have socialized medicine then you would realize how selfish it would be to have it.
NO you can't call them selfish, not by a long shot!

Didn't used to be, there were good and bad folk in both parties.

But now the party of Theocracy is Republican.

the party of Kleptocracy is Republican

the party of white racism is Republican

the party of Moonies is Republican

the party of Torture is Republican

the party of Pederasts is Republican

the party of Moonies is Republican

the party of Hypocrisy is Republican

the party of Corporate Piracy is Republican

There may be a few folk without criminal character flaws that is Republican, but all these folk that do have these flaws are almost entirely Republicans

And you call yourself Diogenes? Turn your lamp off and go to sleep.

The Democrats are selfish in the way they view the Constitution. The Constitution is just plain silly putty in their hands -- it is just plain sophistry -- and they interpret the document in whatever way allows them to have whatever laws they want to have and which disallows conservatives from having whatever laws we want to have.

"Many liberals had been brought up to believe that whatever happened to the other branches of government, the Supreme Court belonged to 'us.' It was 'ours.' Nobody could take that away. We could count on the justices, perhaps not in every case, but certainly over the long run. They would set matters straight when it came down to it.
"It was for this reason so many liberals of my generation became lawyers and so much faith was placed in litigation. The corollary is that even fewer became politicians, political organizers, and political fund-raisers. We eschewed the rough-and-tumble of dirty politics in favor of the neat and elite high road of the judiciary." (Supreme Injustice: How the High Court Hijacked Election 2000, by Alan Dershowitz, 2001.)

I call THAT selfish!

Why? We want people to keep their money, not give all of it to the government. We also respect human life more, targeting terrorists instead of unborn babies. We also target racism instead of promoting it. Republicans typically have more morals than liberal Democrats. So how is being a Republican bad?

Do you consider being an uninformed Liberal Dem as a character flaw?
Aren't they as a result of their values unpatriotic and flip flopping on the issues in their bid to regain political power generally speaking?

If you can't take it, don't dish it out...what a stupid question...it just shows you have absolutely no idea what a Republican is and what values we have...

I think to many people treat politics like a football game..my side is better than yours...for the most part I think we are all victims of propaganda.

No, not really. I may disagree with them, but I respect myself enough not to consider having opinions different from my own a "character flaw."
