I recently revised my resume and the new version is a big improvement. I've sent the old version of my resume to a few companies. I would like to send the new version to the companies who were previously sent the old version.

Below is the cover letter I plan to send with the updated copy of my resume. What do you think? Would you add any additional information?

Please keep in mind that my previous cover letter went into detail on why I was a good fit for the job. Also, keep in mind that the old resume was sent less than two weeks ago, so they should still have it on hand.

"Dear Mr Hiring Manager

I recently mailed you a copy of my resume for the XYZ position. Enclosed is a new copy of my resume that better highlights my skills and qualifications.

Sincerely,

John Doe"

Hiring managers see a gazillion resumes a week. It's unlikely that they even remember your resume. I would recommend one of two things.

1. Send a follow up letter (Similar to your revised cover letter) but state "I am following up on the resume which I submitted in application for the position of XYZ.

or

2. Write a revised cover letter (not mentioning the prior submission) and re-submit the new cover letter along with the new resume.

Best of Luck.

I agree with Valley R. Unless you sent this to a very small company the odds are very good that the hiring manager isn't even going to remember your first submission.

Calling attention to the earlier submission is going to cause people to ask what was wrong with it and why you didn't do your best work the first time around. (Perhaps if you had a good reason for updating it, e.g. you won some award or received some promotion since the first resume, you might be able to get away with it.)

Whenever I send a resume via email, I find it is best to type my cover letter as the body of the email. Your cover letter is your introduction to the HR person at the company, and to attach it and write a note of introduction in your email seems redundant. In addition, if anything should go wrong and your attachments fail to upload, the person to whom you are sending the email may disregard your resume altogether! Good luck in your job hunt!

Add at the bottom "I am looking forward to hearing from you and discussing how I be an asset to your company."
