It's happened to me twice now...both times it was a leftist professor who wanted to indoctrinate his/her students into an anti-American way of thinking...I refused to buy into the propaganda, and so on the final paper (worth a very large percentage of the final grade) they used the inherent arbitrariness of assigning a grade to a paper to give me a very low grade, which prevented me from getting an "A" in each of these classes...I am sick of it!!!

While I would be skeptical of the Anti-Americanness of your liberal professor, yes this has happened, and it sucks.

I had a professor in my "Intro to Globalization" class who was openly anti-"neoliberalism". Being an Econ major and free-market capitalist (though Libertarian on social matters), I found it hard to write papers that would follow the pro-Socialist theme of the class. I did it for the sake of grades, though it feels like selling your soul, but sometimes you've just got to do it. Admittedly though, you won't write as well as something you feel passionate about.

If you can talk it out with the professor, or avoid those classes, do.

One professor at Duke even went so far as to say that liberals are smarter than conservatives.

David Horowitz, a hack, also has a length diatribe about this issue...he insists that leftists run the universities

THERE ARE many many reasons for being critical of America...if your writing amounts to partisanship or taking political sides, you have failed to do what they call critical thinking. Critical thinking does not mean having something negative to say, it is an admission that the clearest answers are usually insufficient.

we cannot reduce the task of thinking to partisanship...

YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO ARGUE FOR BOTH SIDES. ULTIMATELY, IT DOES NOT MATTER WHAT YOU BELIEVE. YOUR JOB AS A STUDENT IS NOT TO TAKE SIDES.

MARXISM AND DEMOCRACY ARE NOT MUTUALLY EXCLUSIVE IDEOLOGIES - PLEASE GET THAT THROUGH YOUR SKULL.

One of the secrets to getting ahead in the world (which your school is trying to impart to you) is to give your boss what he/she wants (and figuring out what that is, is usually the hard part.) In this case, your professor is your boss and he/she has taken a whole semester to tell you what he/she wants, now...do your job.

Do politics on your own time.

Have you talked to your sponsor. Sometimes I think you have to return the professors thoughts back to him to get a good grade.
You may not agree with him, but sometimes it is necessary to slant the paper to his way of thinking to get a good grade. I did it once to get the grade, and then laughed up my sleeve so to speak, when he( prof) complimented me on my paper.

heres how college works
1 do what professor says and get a A
2 dont do what professor says get F
if you want to win you must play by the system
you go to college to do what the professor asks
not what you want
doing what you want to is your career

thats why i didnt like college, all they teach you is how to be full of sht, all i can tell you is that if you want an A next time you gotta learn to play ball, think about it, if it was your boss you was workin for, sometimes you just gotts tell him what he wants to hear, not what you actually think, thats just the system, as sucky as it may be
