I believe Iranians want to live and be happy like most people and without outside interferrence such as happened when the "allies" (primarily Britain, USA and USSR) invaded to secure oil in 1941 and altered the political landscape to suit these invaders instead of the people of Iran.
They were ruled by outsiders from then until 1979 when the Iranian people overthrew the US installed head of state; since then, they have not been accepting of outside (western) influences for which the remaining allies have been much chigrined.
If there was no oil under the sands of Iran, outsiders would not care about the country any more than they care about Nigeria or Liechenstein.
I can't say I agree with their politics, religions or customs but it's not my place to tell others how to live, believe or what to value as long as they afford me the same.

The Iranians I've met here in the US have been wonderful people. Neither they nor their family and friends back home are as different from us as you might think. Whatever the politics of their leaders, the people there mostly want the same things as any other human beings. Much of the hostility comes from a few hardliners and the fact that Iranian propaganda about the US paints as horrible a picture of us as US propaganda about Iran does of them. Do we really believe they're all psychotic terrorists? Most aren't. As countries, we're afraid of each other mostly out of ignorance and a willingness to assume the worst. It's not like our kooky religious leaders are any better -- they only have less power (thank you Constitution).

If you want some real insights into Iran's culture, check out the fine graphic novel Persepolis, by Marjane Sartrapi.

I'm sorry about your Dad, crysmck, but hating a country isn't the answer.

I don't have an issue with Iranians. I wish their leader didn't rattle Sabre's so often, just as I wish that Bush didn't!

Iran probably have some issues with the US as the CIA directed terrorist attacks, blaming a democratically elected government, which was overthrown and a pro-US Oil Shaw of Iran was put into power!

I also think that many don't understand that Iran under the NPT has the right to have a nuke power plant and they have never had more than 3% enriched uranium, though it takes 5% to operate a power plant and 98% to make a bomb!

Nukes by Iranians is about the same as Saddam's WMD's, which did not exist!

I think some people have an issue with Iran as they support Hezbollah which attacked and killed 242 of our Marines in Lebanon!

I have a very positive opinion about the Iranian People, I just very much dislike the Government there and how they treat the people. I would love to visit Iran !

Great skiing, and most Iranians love America and for what we stand for. Most of the older folks there remember the Shah and how open life was under his rule until the nutty people took over in 1979 !

This is a good question and I will try to answer it sensibly and with some thought. I do not know any Iraqi people, but I am sure there are many I would like very much. I don't understand their religion, but then they probably don't understand mine. I don't agree with all of their ways of life, but again.. mine may look pretty wasteful to them too. I hate and detest those who are killing, and those who are ordering it. That includes both the terrorist leaders and our own president. Both sides are wrong. There must be a way to sit down and find peace.. there must be. They say their God is a God of peace .. and we say the same. Isn't it time we let God help us. I pray for both sides..and I cry for the children who are losing fathers and brothers and sisters and mothers on our side... and those who are losing all of that, plus live in constant fear on their side. It is the saddest thing in the world. Thank you for asking this question.

Terrorists and radicals. A government of insane men bent on world domination. As for the average Iranian, I don't know. But my perception is that they are as radical and militant as their wacko government leaders, and I base this on the people I see dancing in the streets in glee at news of deaths in Israel and strikes against the west. I remember the students who took civilians hostage. I remember Khomeini who wanted to destroy the west and my way of life. I remember being called "the great satan" by all of Iran's leaders. I remember scenes, many of them recent, of my fellow- countrymen being burned, hanged, and dismembered in effigy by Iranian people. (Iraqi too- but we're talking about Iran.) And I remember these things happening fairly predictably for the last almost 30 years. That's a lot of water under the bridge over a lot of time. And I remember people hoisting their weapons in the air as they call for my destruction. Sorry, but it's not a pretty picture, and it's all a picture that's taken place on Iranian soil. I honor you for asking the question and wanting to hear the answer.

I think that as a people they are very nice with a great history.

I think that As a government they are developing and that they are making a nuclear program that is allowed by treaty. As for their president I think as much about him as I think of the US President
Not Much.

As a people Iranians will deal with their government the way that is best for them.

To any Iranians who might be reading this not all Americans are like our government,

Being an American.
I hate them.
No offense.
Just my personal opinion.
I understand that we are invading upon them.
But their government is so messedup.
&& because of them.
I lost my dad in Iraq.
I wish they would all die.
I'm sure they wish the same.
But I really dont care.
Nothing against Islam.
But those people have changed their religion to thier own liking.
Mahammad or however you spelt it respected christians && Jews.
He called us "People of the book".
His religion was branched off of ours.
He even believed that Jesus && Moses were great prophets.
But look at his people now::
They hate us.
&& for what??
I want to know where it says in the Qu'ran to blow yourself up.
Where does it say to kill innocent children>??
To kill families?
To kill anyone.
It does say you can fight to spread your religion.
Maybe that is what they are doing.
But I know that is not how they are suposed to do it.
Iran is lost to me.
As for the Iranian youth, I feel sorry for them.
I don't hate them.
Even though I am sure they will become one of those that I do hate.
They even blow up their own people.
Maybe not all of them are like that, but most are.
&& for the ones that are:
I wish you guys would all just die and go to hell.
I respect Islam.
But I do not respect what people have made Islam into for thier convenience.
I am 16 years old, I have no dad.
He was killed by a road side bomb.
So I am sure you can figure where all my hate comes from.

I think that Iran is a country that is suffering from dictatorship....
There are young people there that would love for Iran to be a 'free nation'....

My dad served overseas decades ago and went there. He told me it was the dirtiest country in the world, and god forbid you shake anyone by their left hand, as they don't believe in toilet paper.
Must not have changed much.
