no not necessary, your recipent could have a fedex account
you can enter in their number on the airbill
another option is Fedex bill the recipent
[in those cases we have a tag we stick on the package to tell the courier to collect
the payment or account number before they can recive the package]
you could also open an fedex account (really easy to do)
either online or at a Fedex location. (if you do it at a fedex location Please bring Photo ID and a vaild credit card..
there is also COD but I'm not *that familiar* with that since
I havent yet processed any COD shipments yet..since I'm still
in training in that area

Yes they do. If you don't pay them when you ship a package, when else would they be paid?

This was the simple, common sense answer. This assumes you are just a regular Joe, and drop in a Kinko's to ship something. Since the person asking the question offered no details, its difficult to offer a effective answer. Yes, it can be picked up but for a fee, if you are not already a daily shipper with FedEx. You can also get a shipper number from the recipient if they have one, write that on the waybill and it won't cost the shipper anything either. If it's a return, sometimes the manufacturer provides a label so the item can be returned for free. Otherwise, whomever ships the item, pays the bill when the item is dropped off.
