When you cannot discipline yourself to get out of bed, go to class, do your homework, eat properly, get rest, manage your money, etc... on your own. College is full of independence and that is good and bad. There is no structure other than what you make on your own and if you cannot follow through on things, it is going to be an uphill battle. Not an impossible one, but extremely difficult.

Then you add in the coursework. For me, some of the classes were very easy. But the ones that weren't were extremely difficult because I was pretty much on my own - not a lot of personal attention or help from the teacher. For larger colleges in particular, faculty may not ever learn your name.

If high school has been a struggle academically - particularly if you have a hard time writing and taking tests, then college may not be for you. Some folks find that they need to do other things first before being able to discipline themselves and settle into school (my niece is joining the AF for this reason - she knows she'd flunk out of college, mostly because she likes sleeping more than going to class). That may be the case for you - college may be for you in the future, but not right now.

Hope this helps. I do recommend higher ed, but I know it is not for everyone.

College is for those who want a job using their MINDS
Non-college is for those you want to use their Hands, Muscle,
and learn a trade by aprentises.

You can go to college or trade school. Once you get a degree employers are looking for you. They need educated people to run their business.

You can go from High School straight to a job and work your way up from the bottom, hands on experience. It can take many years to learn your trade or to move up with the employers. You will get lower wages and small increases as you get better and time goes by.

Examples of College Jobs you can get:
Managerial
Scientist
Instructor/teacher
Psychiatrist
Doctor/Nurse
Geologist
Meteorology/Weather
Engineer

Here are a few you can start as an apprentise:

plumber
electrician
truck driver
journeyman/tile setter, carpet layer, etc
home repairman
appliance repairman
waiter
clerk
salesman/clothes, cars etc.
welder
housekeeper
Many service jobs

College is always the best choice if you are motivated to learn. If you get bad grades and don't like school, go the other route and pick a job from the top of my list to make more money.

Your choice.

1. You're so smart that you can run a successful business on your own and make good money for the rest of your life

2. You're think you're not so smart and cannot even get into a college (which I think even anyone can go to college even if it is a community college)

3. You don't care that you'll have to work 10 times as hard when you're older to make money--you're satisfied working at the mall, fast food, grocery store, even if it does not pay enough

4. You're an heir to a wealthy parent, grandparent, whatever. (I doubt it)

Even if it isn't for you...you need it so your life will not be difficult later on. Work hard now so you won't have to later! It sounds good to me.

well, when you don't get accepted to any.

But I recommend if you can get into college then you should go. Once you're there you will have a better idea. But let me tell you life is hard. Its even harder without some type of formal eductaion/training.
