Yep, my little one has one in the center of her chest. Its about the size of a nickle and she has one on her shoulder blade. The doctor said that they usually go away by the time your child is 5. My little ones is already starting to fade. They will turn grey and then white and then fade away. My niece and my nephew have them to. My nephew is 4 now and his is gone, my niece is 2 and hers is turning grey. I hope this helps and know that its nothing to worry about and that they don't know what causes them.

My son had a haemangioma on his side when he was little. It grew until he was about 9 months old and then it started to shrink. It was completely gone by his 2nd birthday. The only thing that I can still see is a large vein in that area, but no one else would ever know that he had a haemangioma. Haemangiomas are a vascular mass and the DO NOT typically require surgery. Ask your doctor to refer you to a pedeatric dermatologist to have it checked out. I think that you will find that they are fairly uncommon in boys and that they disappear by the rule of 10%. That being that 10% will be gone by age 1, 50% by age 5 and so on. There is no need to worry unless it becomes so large that it affects your son's ability to use his mouth. I would avoid the steroids if at all possible. Chances are that he will never even remember having this. I know that it is very scary and that you want your kid to be perfect, but everything will be fine - promise!

The only thing I can think of that is a concern is that it can be internal as well - as in , starts out on his lip and finishes somewhere in his esophogus. I had a friend whose baby had respiratory problems because of it.

Yes, it is something that gets past from the umbilical cord through the babies blood stream. It continues to grow until it is surgically removed.

i think that's like a tumor type thing that can grow and get bigger over time, but it is not cancerous or any thing like that. you should see if they suggest having it removed. get second and third opinions on this one!

See a doc. to have it removed. They can grow to pretty large sizes. So to avoid all probs. later. I would get it seen about now.
