(say a device that goes in the brain, or devices used by people with neurological diseases) I don't think it is necessary for a person to learn psychology because I think the aspects that are relevant can be learned just by observation and common sense. For example, people respond better to positive feedback than negative feedback... you can figure that out if you are observant without having to take a psych course or read the journal articles.
