a tune up may solve the shaking. buy new plugs, plug wires, take it to a shop to check your timing, and check your air filter.

if that doesn't do it, balance your tires, driveshaft, and/or install new motor mounts.

Depends on what kind of shaking. If you feel it in the steering wheel, then you have an issue somewhere between the tires and the suspension. Look for uneven spots in your tires first, then check the lugs. From there, check the tie-rods... they connect to the back of the wheel and control steering and alignment. They should not move easily. From there, jack up the car and try to move the wheel from top to bottom. If it moves in and out, you have a bad ball joint.

If the vibration is from the engine, the car will vibrate when it is sitting still as well as moving. In that case, check the spark plugs and wires, if it is an older car, check the distributor cap and rotor to makes sure that they are free of ash. From there, check the fuel filter and air filter. You may also, if you are replacing those items, replace the PCV valve. It's cheap and helps prevent leaks.

You could have a faulty injector. There are some good additives out there that will help to clear this up.

Bottom line, if you are unsure of what you are doing, take to an econolube and tune. They are reasonable, and will get it back in shape.

this can be caused by lots of different things, for example, the alignment may be off, or maybe your suspension needs checked(could be a broken spring or shocks going bad), maybe an axle is bent, whatever the case, i doubt you have the knowledge to do it yourself if you hafta ask people on yahoo what's wrong. just take it to a mechanic and have them look at it. it'll be alot easier and safer than if you fix it yourself and you do something wrong.

and all these people who're telling you it's time for a new car don't understand that maybe you can't afford a new car or maybe you love this one and don't want to part with it just yet. besides, a new car is more expensive than any of the problems i can think of and a lot more.

summary: save up some cash, take it to a shop and have them find out. if you can, get in there with them and watch them do it so that if it ever happens to you again you can actually fix it yourself. that's the only way to learn about cars.

If your car is shaking while you drive it has nothing to do with a tune up. You might need a wheel alignment or your wheels balanced to stop the shaking. You might even have a wheel or more that have bumps on them due to road damage, this can cause some serious shaking. Sometimes bad rotors and drum brakes will cause your car to shake. I suggest that you do not go out and start replacing parts that might not be causing this shaking. Go to a tire shop and have them analyze the problem for you, in some shops they won't charge you until they do the work. You need to be savvy in this field if you are going to do work yourself, it is much cheaper to have a professional do the work for you......KECK

your not giving enough information. As mechanic for 30 years now--it could be a misfire, vibration dampener, fan, fan clutch, motor mounts, u-joints, CV joints, bent wheel, belt separation in a tire, bad shocks, bad struts, tire out of balance, wheel bearing, front end alignment, king pins, upper control arm, tie rods, a-arm,thrust alignment, broken clutch dampening springs, bent drive shaft, loose lug nuts, failing cogged fan belt------the list can go on for reasons why it shakes. Pay a mechanic to tell you what is wrong--then decide if you want to fix it--or them. Throwing parts at it will cost you more in the end.
as far as a tune-up it depends on the car and how many miles and how old. Other-wise , plugs, wires, cap, rotor, fuel filter, O2 sensor (if more than 65,000 mile), air cleaner if you never change it---- most of today's spark plugs are good for 75k miles, wires 4 years

The fact that your car is shaking is not enough information for any respectable "mechanic" to prescribe a servicing. As you responders show you, there are a variety of reasons why it could be shaking, and the reasons are not always related. The best answer seems to come from sexygrl! when she says, "GO 2 A MECHANIC". Do that and let THEM tell you why it's shaking, or give us a whale of a lot more information for us to at least tell you what system within your automobile to consider. God Bless you.

While you drive it and not when idling would indicate something other than a tune-up problem. It also makes it less likely to be motor mounts, but they are still a possible cause.

Possibilities include (but are not limited to):
one or more tires out of balance
Bad shocks or struts
imbalanced driveshaft
bent wheel
broken belt on the tire
broken or weak spring

Most common problem is a tire out of balance.

is it shaking only when you drive it or all the time even at idle.. If at idle also your timing is off or a sparkplug is not firing.. If only while driving I would check the tires for uneven wear, bulges, or bent rims. Have someone else follow you when you drive to watch the tread on your tires to see if it wobbles.. Might need to replace all 4 tires. Might also try putting on the spare and moving it around to all 4 tire locations to see if that eliminates the problem. when it does just replace the tire that you have off. You can take it to walmart also and get a free tire exam....

Have a mechanic do the job competly. it may cost more but the job will be done right, and you will have a warranty on all parts used and labour. If you do some work yourself and then they finish up on it, and something goes wrong near something you did, it can classify as reasonable doubt about they're work being tampered with and cause the warranty to Void.

Shaking while you drive has more to do with the tires and the wheels and steering alignment. Better look at that first. You may have a bent rim, a bad tire, or worn ball joints or tie rod ends are worn out.

Your car is shaking has nothing to do this spark plugs.
Take it to a dealer. Finding parts on your own is not easy. Given your understanding about cars, I wouldn't buy parts on my own.
