I am running windows defender and microsoft One care. I have just run both programs and no virus or other malicious software was found. But I am suspicious. My computer sometimes runs slow and the hard drive runs a lot on it's own.

Both programs continuously run in the background so what you are noticing is both programs running and slowing down your system. I switched to AVG antivirus and Zone Alarm Firewall. Both run in the background, but don't hog as much memory as brand name antivirus and firewall software, plus AVG and Zone Alarm is free.

It relies upon what the bottleneck in you performance is - if the concern is RAM as an example, a larger speedier disk received't help. It also relies upon on the not hassle-free rigidity - the end results of the not hassle-free rigidity on performance relies upon on the write time and browse time of the disk, it really is pushed by way of the rpm of the disk, move speed, buffers etc. a larger yet slower not hassle-free disk received't inevitably help performance. in case your computer does no longer have adequate RAM to take great factor about a larger, speedier disk, also no longer get any benefit. the position you'll get advancements is once you've more effective room on the disk you receives a lot less fragmentation (you want to run defrag oftentimes) and also you may have a larger homestead windows change report, which will boost up the computer in case you run concurrent homestead windows. often assistance on the thanks to strengthen performance is to operate memory - RAM - it truly is going to fairly a lot continuously strengthen performance.

I am not familiar with the two programs but most likely you have a virus, go to Norton.com and use the free security check and the virus check, disable your programs first or there will be conflicts. Also is the drive freshly defragged? if not try defragging.
