I have a 10mb broadband connection from NTL and when surfing or downloading (or both) the internet speed slows down to zero (looks like it stops but does not disconnect) the rises up again to maximum. It does that every 5 minutes or so and is very annoying. Is there something I can do to fix this or am I just going to have to put up with it?

Call the ISP and tell them the problem. It could be them, you, or the modem that you're using. It could also be the line to your house. But it's a much higher degree that it is either them or the modem.

you know why... it's because of the earthquake that happened in Taiwan which made a telecom tower fall down and sadly, the wires that connect to some parts of the world was broken cause it was buried under the ocean floor...( it's where earthquakes are usually felt...) so i think you just might make your patience longer...
