Yes. They are Europeans and Caucasians as well. There are three categories of Caucasians: Nordic, Alpine, and Mediterranean. You are Mediterranean.

Is this question for real??? Anyway, being that I come from a little island right underneath Sicily ( my country is called Malta) I will tell you what Italians look like. Italians come in all the wonderful shades of skin. It seems that the further south you go the darker the complexion. There are very fair Italians and olive complexion Italians. All of them beautiful! As we all are.
We are my friend Mediterranean!

You are white, if you want to be. But Italians are often perceived as one of the most "ethnic" groups of Europe. There is a book review that I put in the sources that should interest you, and offer an in-depth answer to the question. I think Southern and Northern Italians share a different experience culturally, and probably individual experiences determine whether one feels and identifies as "white"/"Caucasian" or "other". Also, for Italians who Americanize and eventually blend in, the outcome is more often than not "white" identity, tough not always. The Moroccans are said to have contributed to Italian lineage, and the Ethiopians and Eritreans have more recently. So it is not only being invaded, but invading other countries that shapes a blood-line....
PS...Oh I would be so happy to just have a box to check that is brown! I am Egyptian, Eritrean and Northern European-Cuban- American. People called Blacks are actually brown-skinned, even the darkest are a shade of brown. So many people could just identify, and share a universal identity then....

Well I am half Italian and half German. I have always considered myself 100% white but I have had a few people tell me I'm mixed. It's also hard for people to believe I am white because the Italian in me gives me that Latin look and here in Los Angeles people always think I am Hispanic.
You also have to consider that all Italians arent stereotypically "Italian" looking. For example, Sicilians look more black than anything else.
But to answer your question simply..... Yes I have always considered your "standard" Italian (family or otherwise) as white.

We're all mixed, and color labels are pretty flimsy when you look closely. And are any white people actually white? Kind of pink, or beige, or tan, or orange.
Anyway, Sicily in particular has has lots of immigrants over the centuries, so Sicilians could be considered mixed.
I say everyone should identify themselves as whatever color they want to. Regardless of how others view them.
I think I'm a cheerful shade of grey today.

Asks Italians who lived in the Chicago, when, signs appeared in windows of white owned business, the signs read, " Italians (dagos) need not apply". I have a Friend who is Italian, who remembers seeing these signs as a child, growing up in Chicago, he is in his 60's.

I'm Italian and my skin is very white.
you will find Italians from the northern part of Italy (Milan and near Switzerland etc.) are generally "white" while the Italians from the "south" Calabria & Sicily etc. are quite dark.
