i have a 2001 toshiba laptop which has already burned out 2 power adaptors. on my 3rd one and when i get on it, i noticed it keeps switching from battery power to charging back to battery power etc . and i have to reach behind the laptop and mess around with where the cod plugs in till i get back to "charging" again some times it stays "charging" then if i bump the laptop or somethen, it goes back to battery.and sometimes i wont ee that it switched to battery and it goes dead after awhile. i dont think it could be the battery, because obviouslt if it says charging and the percentage goes up, then it can hold a charge. i think it might have a short in it or somthen, what do yall think ?

Rechargeable batteries have a memory so to speak. If not properly charged and maintained they can slowly loose the ability to fully recharge to there max capacity. They will show that they are charging but they are not reaching the appropriate levels, thus causing the charger to over work and over heat.... Chargers have whats known as a floater in them, they allow the charger to turn on and off the flow of recharge power when the battery is not in need of recharge, thus saving the battery from over charging, as well as saving the batteries memory and life span... Get your battery tested, first fully drain it dead, then run a full charge cycle fallowed by a test. Then run the laptop unplugged and see how long the charge last....

It sounds like a short in the wire. The battery shouldn't have anything to do with it as the laptop should be able to run without the battery connected when it is connected to the power adapter.

Mine did this, check the place where the cord goes into the computer, the metal thing that takes the charge may be crooked, if so, turn it off, and try to straighten it, if it stays like that for too long (if that is the problem) it will break that thing off, and you'll have to send it in..thats what happened to me, or it could be a short in he line, or your laptop could just be dumb, but it may be something as simple as checking cords and taping and straightening things

It seems like the connection from the AC adapter plug to the battery, that connector there is probably loose or does have a short.

I don't really know, but let me tell you you are not alone. My laptop has the same problem and it is the most annoying thing. I basically gave up on the plug when I'm using it and just leave it charging somewhere when I'm not.
