it's certainly not the best way to ask someone out, but it's not impossible. I mean, after all, it is the thought that counts. I guess it IS easier to ask somebody out on IM instead of in person or on the phone,...but still, its better to call them :D

no i don't think so but u might wanna b careful because my friend was talking to her "friend" and it was actually his brother that she was talking to but didn't know it. he was asking her out and things (pretending to b her friend) and she said yes and then the next day at school her friend asked her what his brother said to her. she was really embarrassed

if you are a teenager and the person you ask out doesnt have extremely high expextations, you are good. otherwise, stay away from it.
