I would call him negative and insecure. Some people feel that they need to put things and people down, to make themselves feel built up. He probably has self esteem problems. Say to him 'You seem to be down on everything today. Are you O.K.?' The response could be quite a surprise. Don't let him bring you down. Best wishes.

What would I call him? I wouldn't! Why call a guy like that who is so negative all the time? I'd find friends who were more positive and upbeat. It sounds like he is either depressed -- or very immature. High school kids often diss everything because it's uncool to like anything -- in case someone else crticiizes it. Anyway, maybe you could sit down with him and have a heart-to-heart talk to ask him if everythig is OK with him since he seems so negative about so many things. Maybe he will realize he is being a "Debbie Downer" and lighten up!

I guess he is somewhat of a hypocrite if he cursed the pizza but eats it anyway -- because, say, it is free.
I think "irascible" (easily provoked to anger; very irritable) would be closer to what you mean.
Other good words for him include:
bristly, cantankerous, choleric, crabby, cranky, cross, grouchy, huffy, peevish, petulant, querulous, short-tempered, surly, and testy.

He's being an ***. If it bothers you, tell him to shut up and if he continues, throw stuff at him. Once he gets hit in the head with a bookend, he'll shut up for at least the rest of the evening.

Lonely, why waste your time with such a pessimistic person. One word I'd use with him, "Scram!" Clearly, he's a killjoy.
