can someone get someone elses IP address just from emails?

Possibly, just look at the headers of the email. Chances are the furtherest down IP address was the IP address of the sender at the time the email was sent.

t field can be displayed in the e-mail clients such as yahoo just by clicking on Brief Headers at the very bottom right side

yes. If you are in a mail client, such as Mozilla Thunderbird, you can get the ip from the information in that email's properties. This is so that malicious mail can be tracked, as well as spam, and illegal activities. It works similar to a return address.

usually the e-mail header holds the ip-address of the sending computer, but that field isn't displayed in the e-mail clients such as hotmail yahoo and gmail
