i recently boought the maxtor 3 external hard drive. when i went to plug it into my computer it didn't pop up attimaticaly. so i tried going the longer way but it still didn't work b/c there are no extra drives to claim it as. is there any way to get the software on a cd or is there a fix to this?

2 Things:
1) Install the CD or download the software from the Maxtor web site.
2) Did you flip the power switch on the external drive?

What Operating system do you have on your Eee PC? If it is a unix based OS, the hard disk might be marked as "in use" and won't be able to access it unless you properly disconnect it with a Windows machine. And if it is a Windows machine, it might not be formatted correctly, or have file system errors. Try hooking it up to another machine and checking for errors.

Some drive problems can be easily fixed by yourself using easily available tools. I found the info at http://fixit.in useful. Try this site, if you can get what is required.
