Both of my daughters have a stomache bug and I know they're feeling horrible. I've given them warm baths, let them eat popsickles(the only thing they could keep down earlier), and cuddled with them. What else can I do for them? This is the first time they've really been sick. I've been giving them pedialyte as well. I feel terrible because both of them have been vomiting with diarhea. I just feel like I could be doing more.

My sister-in-law is a nurse. She came over today when I called and said exactly what I thought they had: a stomach virus. They seem to be feeling better than they were yesterday or else they would have already been to the doctor even with their aunt coming over to check on them.

It is so tough when little ones are sick. I have had this stomach bug that you speak of. There is nothing you can do besides wait it out. I also found that warm 7-up or sprite helped me feel a little better.

Good Luck!

Ginger goes a long way in helping to smooth the lining of the stomach, which when irritated by a stomach bug, causes the vomiting. You won't find any ginger in most ginger ales out there, just artificial flavorings. I always bought mine fresh from the produce section, unless you can find it in a tea from a health food store. Ginger looks like a gnarled root, and when you peel it the flesh is white and fibrous when you cut into it. Peel and slice thin about one inch of the root, boil it in about 1 1/2 cups water, then let it steep in the hot water for about 20 minutes. It has a bit of a peppery taste, so if it's too strong, you can water it down for your kids and add just a touch of honey. This is also great for motion sickness, and has been proven to help those who have trouble with this.

As far as the diarrhea goes, that could last a few days even after the vomiting has stopped and they're eating the BRAT diet mentioned above. A good probiotic helps. You can find this at your natural food/health food store. Make sure to get the kind that needs to be refrigerated to make sure the cultures are live. Otherwise, load 'em up on yogurt once they can stomach it, since it has live cultures too. It'll balance out the flora in the gut, which is responsible for healthy bowels.

I'm a puke-a-phobe myself, and hate it when my kids are sick. Best of luck to you, and hang in there!

Pepto Bismol is the best thing for that. I worked for a Dr. give a dose after every bowel movement and it attatches to the bug and gets it out. The stool will turn sort of blackish so don't be alarmed by that. Then put cool compresses on them and watch for fever, it it's the flu that might happen next, hope not but be prepared with a fever reducer in case. The BRAT diet bananas, rice, applesauce and dry toast id good for when they come out of it. As long as they are getting fluids for the next couple of days don't worry about the food. maybe some cleat chicken broth for when they turn around too. Good luck. God bless.

I think that you are doing everything that you can. Just continue the good work and cuddle with them alot. I don't know how old your daughters are so I don't know if there is any medicine that you could give them. If you are still having questions call your local hospital and ask them they should be able to tell you what else that you can do. Watch giving them baths if they have a temperature it could throw them into shock.

if they are young, which i am assuming they are since this is the first time they have been sick, take them to the doctor. Diarhea and vomiting sounds like the beginnings of dehydration

You are doing the best you can for them and that's all you can do. Just let it pass, my girls had the same thing recently at the same time too. You are being a good mom, just keep at it!

I hate it when my kids get sick to. You are doing a great job and they will remember it when they get older. I felt bad the other day because my 4 year old was sick with a cold. I was busy doing laundry and she comes to me and says "You know mommy sick kids like to sit with their mommies." So she answered the question for you.
